Common questions.
Is this financial advice?
No. Mentioned is an information service. Mention counts are not sentiment, causation, a recommendation, or a prediction. Read the full disclaimer. What counts as a mention?
One matching GDELT news record counts as one mention for a tracked company or asset. A record must match an exact configured entity name or topic tag. Repeated references within that record still count once for that target; one record can match several targets. The count is not the number of readers, words or unique stories. What does the free app do?
A watchlist of up to 3 stocks, the top 5 ranked tickers, and 48-hour mention charts when a complete window is available. Open the free app. No payment required. Sign in to sync across devices. Stock alerts are in prelaunch testing; customer notifications are currently paused. Evaluation also requires a complete current stock snapshot. Crypto alerts are not available in this release. How does Mentioned actually work?
Mentioned measures news coverage of 47 equities and 10 crypto assets using the GDELT Project. It ranks matching record totals over a rolling 48-hour window and shows 32 bars, each covering 90 minutes. Full source and counting details are on the methodology page. Why can a company have so many mentions?
The dataset includes general company and entertainment coverage as well as financial news. For example, coverage of a Netflix show can count for Netflix when the record matches its configured name. Syndicated or similar stories can appear as separate records. A high total therefore shows coverage in this dataset, not necessarily investor interest or distinct news events. How current is the data?
The window rolls forward as complete GDELT intervals arrive and older intervals leave the 48-hour view. Publication, collection and validation take time. Check the displayed snapshot time; a 90-minute bar does not give the exact publication time of each mention. What's the difference between free and premium?
The free web preview shows the top 5 ranked tickers and tracks up to 3 stocks. Premium and the public iOS app have not launched yet. Planned Premium pricing is $14.99 USD/month or $149.99 USD/year, with the full ranked board and a watchlist capacity of 100 stock tickers, with 47 equities currently supported. Both plans use the same counts. Stock alerts are in prelaunch testing; customer notifications are currently paused. Evaluation also requires a complete current stock snapshot. Crypto alerts are not available in this release. With the public iOS launch, it will also include the separate board for 10 crypto assets and the Brief when counts are available. The free app stays free.
